On March 6th, Union Syndicale forwarded to Members of the European Parliament its position on the proposed review of the Staff regulations, together with a number of proposals for amendments. Further to this position and theses proposals, we hereby want to forward to MEPs our position on the numerous amendments tabled in the JURI, BUDG, CONT and FEMM Committees. We have followed the same structure as in our previous submission.

On 13 December 2011, the Commission transmitted to the European Parliament and Council its proposal to amend the Staff Regulations of Officials and the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Union.
On 1 March, Mrs Roth‐Behrendt (S&D), Rapporteur for the JURI Committee presented her draft report. Several amendments proposed are directed towards easing problems that would be caused by the Commission proposal.

We have explained why the Commission's proposals creating an "aristocracy" within the European civil service that would exclude secretaries and clerks are unacceptable. If you think this is not so bad because it would apparently not affect current staff and only a small number of future colleagues - read on.
